Our thanks to James McPhedran of Liquor King for coming along again and providing some lovely wines to taste. Also to Ferrymead Golf for the excellent venue for a tasting.
Tonight we had a couple of Bubbles, a couple of aromatics and a couple of Aussie Reds…
As we head into the festive season it’s an ideal time to try some bubbles and the Lindauer Special Reserve Blanc de Blanc and Brut Cuvee are pretty good value for money. (n.b. reviews are JB’s – others may have a different view)
The Blanc de Blanc, 100% chardonnay was light in colour, a fine bead, bready/yeast notes in the nose with some green but ripe fruit characters and creamy finish – all Marlborough fruit (rrp $17)
On the other hand the Brut Cuvee was almost Rose with Pinot Noir adding colour to the wine, again yeast in the nose, drier but a nicer mouth feel. ($16)
The NED Sauvignon Blanc 2011 made by Brent Marris at Marisco wines was pale with hints of green, herbaceous, citrus green apple and tropical fruit. ($18)
The NED Pinot Gris 2011 was clean, pale onion skin / salmon in colour with pears and spice, with a long dry finish. ($18)
Ingoldby McLaren Vale Shiraz 2009 – Dark cherry/purple, sweet spice / plums, chocolate, nice fruit/tannin/oak balance ($26)
McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 – very dark purple, plums, cherries, hint of oak, bigger tannins than the Shiraz, smooth finish , great length ($26)
6 really nice wines thanks James, great nibbles (thanks Jeanette!) and a lot of fun…
Our Xmas Function next month so keep an eye out for an email from Jocelyn.
